MANILA, Philippines - Four robbers who divested a 19-year-old man of his cell phone a week ago got their comeuppance in a "textmate" sting operation, a radio report said early Thursday.
Radio dzBB's Louie Garcia reported the four, two of them minors, had fallen for a trap set by their victim who posed as a female texter asking for an "eyeball" or meeting.
Arrested by Manila police in Tondo were Eduardo Buen and Erwin Gucuel, and the two minors aged 16 and 17.
Initial investigation showed the four held up Henry Manguya, 19, in Tondo and took his money and cell phone sometime last week.
After seeking police assistance, Manguya lured the robbers to an "eyeball" by sending a text message to his stolen cell phone and introducing himself as a woman.
The suspects were arrested when they showed up at the meeting place.
